Raps filed vs brothers who fought policemen

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Samboan police have filed criminal complaints against the controversial Encarquez brothers who allegedly fought with the cops when they were being arrested for extracting sand.

PO1 Joan Sojor told The FREEMAN that the two, Niko, 18, and Ryan, 22, are facing charges for direct assault and for violating the municipal ordinance that penalizes the illegal extraction of sand.

The brothers were arrested on December 20, 2014 after they allegedly resisted arrest and challenged the police officers to a fight.

The police said that prior to the arrest, they received a report about a group of men allegedly extracting sand from the shore in Barangay Suba, Samboan, Cebu.

Upon arriving at the place, PO1 Jason John Hiramis, PO3 Johnny Marquiño, and PO1 Serge Hiramis approached the Encarquez brothers and asked them to show a permit.

When they failed to show the papers, the police reportedly ordered them to stop extracting sand but brothers allegedly got irked.

Hiramis tried to calm them down but Ryan allegedly choked him, prompting the two other cops to intervene. Niko allegedly challenged the cops to a fistfight, which left the cops with no other choice but to arrest the two.

As of yesterday, it was uncertain whether or not the brothers will post bail for their temporary liberty. — (FREEMAN)
