Robber takes away trader’s P110,000 intended for loan

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  A livestock dealer reportedly lost at least P110,000 cash to a lone robber who allegedly pointed at him a gun in Barangay Langub, Argao Friday morning.

Victim Gary Sarda, 31, a resident of Barangay Tubod, Sibonga, said the money was supposedly intended as payment for his loan.

Based on the police report, Sarda was cleaning his motorcycle when a man who was covering his face with a black shirt, appeared and pointed at him an undetermined caliber of firearm.

The man allegedly then ordered Sarda to give him the bag he was carrying, which contained the P110,000 cash.

Allegedly in fear, Sarda handed over the bag to the robber.

The robber then fled on foot after the incident.

Police Officer 3 Benjamin Gerosaga, desk officer of Argao Police Station, said the victim claimed that he was supposed to pay the money to another businessman in Barangay Lindogon, Sibonga.

The police conducted a hot pursuit operation against the robber, but they failed to locate him.

Investigation is ongoing on the matter.

Meanwhile, on the same day, close to P8,000 worth of cash and a gadget were carted away by an unidentified burglar from a Lotto outlet in Barangay Poblacion Oriental, Consolacion town.

The burglary was discovered by outlet owner Gina Bacol early morning when she opened the establishment.

Initial investigation showed that the burglar destroyed the lower portion of the outlet’s door to gain entrance.

Once inside, the burglar took the store’s sales proceeds amounting to P4,980 and an alleged Ipad worth P2,000.

The police recovered a green ball cap inside the outlet believed to have been left by the thief.

A follow-up investigation is underway to identify the culprit.  (FREEMAN)
