East Paris KTV gets green light
CEBU, Philippines - Despite earlier reports of lewd shows, the Cebu City government has authorized East Paris KTV in Barangay Mabolo to operate starting on December 21, a year after the establishment, which was then named Las Vegas KTV Bar, was closed for violation of the anti-indecency ordinance of the city.
The KTV bar, however, is still subject to possible administrative penalties after it reportedly violated the same ordinance when it had a “dry-run” operation last month.
In a three-page letter dated November 21, East Paris KTV legal counsel Inocencio Dela Cerna Jr. clarified that the reopening was for a dry-run of the lighting system, sound amplification and acoustics, electrical wirings, kitchen and beverage dispensation, and actual practice for guest relations and welcoming committee, which are done at night.
“The seeming impression that our client has opened its business may be due to the fact that East Paris KTV has for several days been doing a complete and thorough checking of the establishments for the safety and concern of its future guests and as a requirement of the City Ordinances,” he said.
The matter will be discussed today by the Cebu City Anti-Indecency Board headed by Dr. Lucelle Mercado. The CAIB will determine whether or not the East Paris will be penalized. The penalty ranges from P5,000 to P10,000.
Mercado said the East Paris KTV (formerly Las Vegas KTV) has complied and passed the necessary requirements, making them lawful to operate once again.
“On December 21, one year na sukad gisira nato ang bar last year. Therefore, pwede na sila mag-operate bisan pa different name or the same name and nature of business,” she said.
Las Vegas KTV, which used to operate at the second floor of APM Square Mall where the East Paris KTV currently operates, was ordered padlocked in December due to alleged “lewd and obscene shows.”
Mercado warned the establishment to observe “morality” practices in its operation to avoid any possible closure. She said CAIB will regularly monitor the bar.
“Our intention is to encourage business but not sacrificing morality. Hinaut unta nga magbantay sila. Pwede man entertainment apan hinaot lang na wala lang law-ay na maakita. This serves as a warning to them para careful next time because we are also vigilant sa atong inspection and monitoring,” she said. (FREEMAN)
