Four vie to become treasurer

CEBU, Philippines - At least four Cebu City Hall officials have expressed intention to become permanent city treasurer.

The applicants include acting city treasurer Diwa Cuevas, assistant treasurer Tessie Camarillo, acting city accountant Mark Salomon, and Emma Villarete, who is currently assigned at the Cebu City Medical Center.

They have submitted their application letter and other requirements to the Human Resource and Development Office last week.

HRDO chief Dominic Diño said his office received the applications immediately after the job vacancy was posted.

Diño said Cuevas’ temporary appointment will end in February next year. He said that posting the job vacancy and accepting applications are in compliance with the civil service guidelines.

Diño said that other interested applicants may also submit their application requirements directly to the Office of the City Mayor.

Diño said he has already endorsed the papers of the four applicants to the Office of the Mayor. He said that Mayor Michael Rama should choose three names from among the applicants and them before the Department of Finance through the Bureau of Local Government Finance-7.

Diño said that the mayor has the discretion as to whose names will be forwarded to DOF, adding that DOF has the authority to appoint treasurer in all local government units nationwide.

Diño said that he is hoping that DOF will consult the mayor as to the latter’s sentiments on the appointment of permanent treasurer.

Rama earlier expressed his preference over Cuevas. (FREEMAN)
