Council creates committee to ensure project funding

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Council has created an ad hoc committee to ensure that resolutions requiring funds from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation are given priority.

The members of the committee will serve as the council’s liaison to the executive department.

The ad hoc committee is composed of Councilors Eugenio Gabuya, as chairman, and Margarita Osmeña, Noel Wenceslao, James Anthony Cuenco, Mary Ann De los Santos, and Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella as members.

Gabuya, who authored the resolution creating the committee, said that this is to ensure that resolutions charging against PAGCOR funds are properly implemented.

“There are projects and programs charged to Pagcor funds approved by this August Body, but are not yet implemented,” he said.

“Kailangan gyud ang ad hoc committee so that all resolutions will not be left out tungod kay dili lang ganahan ang mayor,” Gabuya added.

Councilor Gerardo Carillo said that the committee is akin to the ad hoc oversight committee created by the City Council last week to monitor the status of approved ordinances during the 12th and 13th Sangguniang Panglungsod which are yet to be implemented.

Carillo said that it is the prerogative of the executive department to prioritize Pagcor-funded resolutions.

“With this, the ad hoc committee will just sit with the executive to tackle the matter to coordinate with them para Pagcor-funded resolutions will be promptly implemented,” he said.

The City Council has asked the city accountant a copy of the list of Pagcor-funded projects that were not given priority. (FREEMAN)
