Bullet kills man, 5-year-old grandchild
CEBU, Philippines - A 71-year-old man and his five-year-old granddaughter were killed from a single bullet used to shoot the man early morning in Barangay Simala, Sibonga town yesterday.
Ernesto Resurreccion, 70, and the child were rushed to the Deiparine Medical Clinic but did not make it there alive.
Senior Police Officer 3 Antonio Sanchez told The Freeman that the victims were washing plates outside their house almost 6 a.m. when the suspect arrived on board a motorcycle and shot Ernesto once, hitting him in the chest. Investigation revealed that the bullet exited his back and hit his granddaughter in the head.
After the seeing the victims fall, the gunman sped toward Argao town.
Investigators recovered an empty shell of a .45 caliber pistol from the crime scene.
Investigation is ongoing to determine the motive of the shooting and identify the gunman. Sanchez said the Ernesto has lived in Simala for quite some time, has been low profile and never figured in controversies.
“Yano ra man ni, ang asawa nagtinda-tinda sa Simala pero ginagmay ra,” he said. (FREEMAN)
