Cops hold 2 suspects for snatching, robbery
CEBU, Philippines - Elements of the Cebu City Police Office arrested two persons in suspicion of snatching and robbery in just two days.
The police held Roderick Caballes, 27, of Barangay Ocaña, Carcar City after he was arrested by an off-duty police officer for allegedly snatching a mobile phone from a jeepney passenger who is a minor.
The 17-year-old victim shouted for help just in time that Police Officer 3 Arvin Guiroy who is assigned at the Special Weapons and Tactics of the CCPO was in the area together with his son.
While driving his car, Guiroy noticed the commotion so that he immediately alighted from the vehicle and pursued Caballes. After a short chase Caballes was arrested and the mobile phone was recovered from his possession.
When PO3 Guiroy frisked the suspect he found a small folding knife in Caballes’ waist. He brought him to Fuente Police Station where he is currently detained for the crime of robbery.
In an interview with Chief Inspector Wildemar Tiu, Fuente Police Station chief, he said that this is the second time that Guiroy responded to an alarm even if he is off duty.
Tiu said that the first time happened during the stint of Senior Superintendent Melvin Buenafe in 2012 when he arrested two robbers near a mall in North Reclamation Area.
He left his child in his motorcycle while he pursued the robbers that led to their arrest. Tiu said that he will let Cebu City Police Office officials know of the heroic act of PO3 Guiroy.
Meanwhile, Danilo Felicitas, 29, of Cagayan de Oro City, a suspected robber was arrested inside a jeepney in General Maxilom Avenue past 9:00 a.m. yesterday after he allegedly robbed the passengers of their belongings.
Tiu said that PO1 Erwin Barabad received information from a motorist a robbery inside a jeepney.
Barabad immediately approached the jeepney and he saw Felicitas holding a knife so he asked the passenger to alight leaving the suspect inside the jeepney.
Felicitas did not resist arrest. After Barabad frisked the suspect, a small pack of suspected shabu from his jeans right pocket was discovered.
He was brought to Fuente Police Station while waiting for the charges of robbery and violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 to be filed against him. — (FREEMAN)
