CEBU, Philippines - A motorcycle driver died while another was seriously injured after they figured in a motorcycle accident in Barangay Tayud, Liloan last Sunday afternoon.

Hemie Cohitmingao of Guilaguila, Compostela suffered serious injuries in the head that led to his death. The other driver, Alano Lapad, also sustained major injury to the head.

Police Officer 2 Noli Bohol, traffic field investigator of the Liloan Police Station, said Cohitmingao was driving a Suzuki Raider motorcycle bound for Compostela while Lapad, who was travelling in the opposite direction, was bound for Sitio Kapas, Barangay Tayud, Liloan to work.

When Lapad reached the junction going to Sitio Kapas, he turned left and crossed the other lane but collided with Cohitmingao in the process.

“Straight lang og dagan si Cohitmingao. Naapikihan siguro maong nagkabangga sila. Mingaw sad kaayo tong panahona,” Bohol said.

The two men were thrown off the vehicles as their motorcycles fell.

Bohol said that Cohitmingao and Lapad were not wearing helmets at the time of the incident.

Cohitmingao was rushed to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center while Lapad was brought to Eversley Child’s Sanitarium but was later transferred to VSMMC.

Bohol said they received a text from Cohitmingao’s sister informing them that his brother died at 10:05 p.m.

Lapad, on the other hand, is still confined at the hospital after a blood clot was found in his head.

The police are still waiting for Cohitmingao’s family to file charges against Lapad. – (FREEMAN)
