Teen says he knows florist’s killer

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The 17-year-old boy whom police arrested last Monday will possibly be considered a state witness in the murder of florist Daniel Cañete after he disclosed information regarding the victim’s alleged killer.

The third year high school student claimed he knew Cañete’s killer and that he is willing to cooperate with the police by giving them vital information on the case.

He was earlier arrested after his fingerprints matched with those that were lifted by the Crime Scene Investigation Unit from the crime scene.

Superintendent Romeo Santander, City Intelligence Branch chief, who was interviewed over dyAB said that the minor admitted that he was around Cañete’s flower shop prior to the incident, which allegedly explains the fingerprints.

Santander said they now have “persons of interest” behind the florist’s slay, though he cannot divulge information yet on their identity.

Last Wednesday, two 16-year-old boys were invited by CIB but were later released after their involvement in the crime was not established. Their fingerprints were taken by the CSIU, though, for matching with those lifted from the crime scene.

Cañete was found dead inside his flower shop with several stabbed wounds in the stomach. His cash amoun-ting to P250,000 and personal belongings, including two laptops, a tablet, and three cellular phones, were reportedly missing.  (FREEMAN)
