AJ de la Torre - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The provincial government showed an increase in income and collections amounting to P157 million from January to September this year compared to the same period last year.

Based on the report of the Provincial Treasurer’s Office, the tax revenues, operating and miscellaneous revenues, economic enterprise and the Internal Revenue Allotment and national wealth for 2014 reached P1,829,763,818.

Last year’s collection from January to September was at 1,672,651,953, which shows that this year’s income increased by P157,111,865 in the same period.

A big portion of the increase is attributed to tax collections, which shows that for the same period this year, Capitol got P104,827,457, higher than last year’s P95,346,607.

The chunk of the Capitol’s taxes come from real property tax at P50 million while the rest are from taxes on sand, gravel and quarry operations, transfer taxes, taxes on delivery trucks and vans, among others.

Records also show that for January to September, revenues at the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) has increased from P45,037,857 last year to P46,602,169 this year.

It was noted that CSBT’s income for the whole year in 2013 at P65 million decreased from the income in 2012 at P59 million.

Further, the provincial go-vernment’s collection for the past nine months for operating and miscellaneous revenues, which includes clearance and certification fees, the governor’s permit fee, sale of assets and other miscellaneous incomes and receipts has declined from P32.3 million last year to P31.6 this year.

Capitol’s earnings from district hospitals, specifically from hospital and medical and dental fees, has also decreased to P95.4 million for the past three quarters from last year’s P109.5.

The earnings, though, from other properties under the provincial government, including the Larsian in Fuente Osmeña, showed a slight increase with P16.6 million compared to last year’s P16.3.

As for the Internal Revenue Allotment and national wealth, Capitol has gone up to P1.5 billion from January to September this year from last year’s P1.3 bi-llion.  (FREEMAN)
