CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City government is extending assistance to the family of a 30-year-old woman who gave birth to triplets in Barangay To-ong on October 7.

Department of Social Welfare and Services head Ester Concha said the city government handed over a P5,000 financial assistance to the Ubanan family yesterday.

Aravacil Ubanan said that she did not have a hard time giving birth to the triplets she named Rey, Ryan, and Rev.

Ubanan said that after she gave birth to Rev and Ryan, the midwife came and assisted her to deliver baby Rey.

“Wala gyod ko nag-expect nga triplets akong anak kay wala pod ko naka pa-ultrasound gud pero ga duda na akong midwife kada pre-natal nako nga murag twins akong baby kay maglisod sila og pangita sa heart beat,” she said.

She said that she did not even think that she would still get pregnant after undergoing operation in 2002, leaving her with only one ovary.

“Naa man kaliwat akong bana og twins gud, karon amo ang triplets,” she said.

Ubanan said that she could easily identify her triplets: Rey being the thin among the three, Ryan being the hairy, and Rey having fair complexion.

She said that she is thankful that she did not have any complications knowing their financial stability.

Aravacil is a plain housewife while her husband, Jenefer, is a motorcycle driver earning only a hundred pesos a day for his family.

Having been together since 2005, the couple is blessed with seven babies, including the triplets.

Barangay To-ong councilman Eugenio Tabas accompanied Aravacil, Jenefer, and other family members to City Hall yesterday to ask for any assistance from the city government.

“Kon unsay mahatag sa government, bisan unsa pa na amo gyong dawaton,” Aravacil said.

Concha said that the city government could extend financial assistance to families in “crisis situation.”

She said that the department is giving Aravacil possible livelihood assistance but the mother should first take a rest for a month. – (FREEMAN)
