Korean’s van bumps motorcycle, killing two, hurting one in Liloan
CEBU, Philippines - Two men died while their companion was seriously injured after their motorcycle collided with a van driven by a Korean national in Barangay Looc, Liloan, Cebu past 1 a.m. yesterday.
Police identified the fatalities as Wilson Deiparine, the driver of the motorcycle, and his passenger, Jomar Sugarol. Randy Manzano, the second passenger, is currently in the hospital.
Lim Taijen, the Korean national who was driving the Starex van that hit the victims, was arrested by Liloan police.
Based on initial investigation, Deiparine was driving a Honda motorcycle with Sugarol and Manzano with him when, upon reaching Barangay Looc, they were hit by Taijen’s van, which was travelling in the opposite direction.
Deiparine and Sugarol immediately died after suffering severe injuries while Manzano was brought to a private hospital in Cebu City for treatment.
Taijen is being detained while police wait for the decision of the victims’ families whether or not to file a case against the Korean national.
Meanwhile, in Barangay Bitoon, Dumanjug town, three people were injured after their respective vehicles hit each other past 3 p.m. Saturday.
Francisco Sagayna, 37, was driving a motorcycle while Angelo Sada, 36, was driving a tricycle with Julietta Escodillo, 54, as his passenger when the incident happened.
The motorcycle and the tricycle were travelling in opposite directions when Sada allegedly suddenly made a left turn upon reaching Barangay Bitoon to supposedly drop off his passenger.
Sagayna was caught off guard by what Sada did and failed to avoid hitting the tricycle.
The victims suffered injuries and were treated at Barili District Hospital.
The motorcycle and the tricycle were brought to the police station for safekeeping while police are trying to determine who between the two drivers should be held responsible for the accident. (FREEMAN)
