3 men nabbed with firearms

CEBU, Philippines - Three people were arrested by the police in two separate incidents after firearms and drug paraphernalia were caught in their possession.

Two 25-year-old men who were on board a motorcycle without a plate number were apprehended by the Mobile Patrol Group of the Cebu City Police Office in Barangay Guadalalupe, Cebu City.

Gabriel Tampon and Freddie Alcuirez, who are both from Upper Laguna, Green Hills, San Fernando, were arrested for violation of Republic Act 10591 and Republic Act 9165.

The police recovered a cal. 38 revolver loaded with five live ammunition from Tampon and two pieces of rolled aluminum tin foil and one blue disposable lighter from Alcuirez.

Both suspects were suspiciously riding a red XRM motorcycle without a plate number which prompted the MPG to follow them from Fortich Street corner R. Duterte Street.

Upon reaching a mall in the area, Tampon and Alcuirez reportedly jumped off from the motorcycle and ran towards V. Rama Avenue corner M. Velez Street.

While the two suspects were arrested upon the chase, the driver of the motorcycle was able to escape.

Meanwhile, a firearm and drug paraphernalia were recovered from Dillan de Leon, who was arrested by the Highway Patrol Group-7 in Barangay Talamban, Cebu City yesterday morning.

Inspector Charlie Reyes, investigation section chief of HPG-7, said that while conducting anti-carnapping operation in the area, they noticed a motorcycle with a plate number illegally displayed.

They later found out that the plate number was already expired since it was still registered in 2010.

“Nu’ng pinara siya, sa halip na huminto ay tumakbo siya. Nu’ng na-corner na namin, pinababa namin sa sasakyan,” said Reyes.

The police found a cal. 45 pistol and a magazine with complete set of ammunition from De Leon’s waistline.

Suspected drug paraphernalia were also confiscated from the suspect’s possession.

“Ipapa-examine pa namin sa crime laboratory ang nakuha namin and will subject the firearm for ballistic examination. We will also check if registered nga ba,” said Reyes.

Reyes said that they have yet to acquire information from the suspect.

The suspect will face charges for illegal possession of firearm in violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. — Grace Melanie I. Lacamiento/NSA (FREEMAN)
