CEBU, Philippines - Six minor landslides were recorded by the Cebu  City  Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council as a result of heavy rains yesterday.

City Councilor David Tumulak, Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council head, said the landslides occurred in Sitio Kanaas, Barangay Guadalupe; Sitio Tipolo Ville, Barangay Guadalupe; Sitio Ginasawgan, Barangay Sapangdaku, Sitio Bangkal, Barangay Sapangdaku; Sitio Kaimitohan, Barangay Sapangdaku; and Sitio Lupa, Barangay Sapangdaku.

There were no recorded fatalities, but a certain Feliza Aligado, 39, was injured after the landslide in Sitio Lupa, Barangay Sapangdaku.

Tumulak said that Aligado was immediately brought to the Cebu City Medical Center after the incident, and is now in a stable condition since the injury was not that serious.

About 2 p.m. yesterday, a container van owned by Helpmate Inc. fell into Sapangdaku River after heavy downpour, said Tumulak.

The city disaster team was still trying to remove the fallen container van as of last night.

“Namiligro ang residente sa lugar kay mosaka ang tubig unya maanod ning container van, kon dili matangtang, maigo gyod ang mga balay inig anod ato,” Tumulak said.

He said that he already informed the 80 barangays in the city of the dangers brought by the continuous rain that might last until next week.

“Atong gipa-alerto ang kabarangayan gyod nga magbantay gyod sila kanunay labi na sa pagbunok sa uwan, mga barangay officials magpahigayon gyod dayon og pa-evacuate sa mga residente kon makita na gyod nila nga risgo gyod kaayo,” he said.

He said that the disaster team is monitoring all the barangays, but they are giving special attention to barangays that are prone to floods and landslides.

“Actually, gi-inform na gyod na sila sa MGB (Mines and Geosciences Bureau) nga mobalhin gyod and ang barangay mismo milihok na nga pabalhinon na ang naa sa risgo pero ang ilang rason tungod sa kawad-on nila, medyo maapiki ilang pagpabalhin,” he said.

The MGB of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources earlier disclosed that 14 of the city’s 80 barangays are both susceptible to both landslides and floods. These are the barangays Adlaon, Apas, Banilad, Buot, Cambinocot, Guadalupe, Guba, Labangon, Pamutan, Pit-os, Pulangbato, Quiot, Sapangdaku, and Toong.(FREEMAN)
