60-day rerouting for PUJs in Mandaue

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A dry run for a proposed traffic rerouting scheme for public utility vehicles in Mandaue City took effect yesterday and will be in place until the end of the month.

“Nagsugod na gyud ang dry run karong adlawa pero 60 days man ang giingon so mga September 30 ni kutob ang dry run,” Romeo Armamento, president of the Mandaue United Drivers Association, said yesterday.

He said the association supports the dry run because it aims to decongest traffic in the city.

Last July 30, 2014, the Mandaue City Council approved Resolution 13548-2014 giving the city’s Traffic Enforcement Agency 60 more days to hold the dry run. The traffic group will come up with a recommendation after the dry run.

Under the resolution, all public utility vehicles from Cebu City and Mandaue City proper travelling MC Briones Street shall turn left to A.S. Fortuna Street and then turn right to the JCenter Mall terminal.

The resolution also said that all PUJs from northern towns and cities travelling along MC Briones Street shall turn right to L. Jayme Street and turn left to Albino Street to JCenter Mall terminal.

Armamento said the proposed scheme is also a way of getting rid of illegal terminals in the city. —(FREEMAN)
