3-month-old baby ‘pinned to death’

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A three-month-old baby boy died after he was allegedly pinned down by his father while sleeping in their house in Barangay Calamba, Cebu City on Saturday.

The baby’s mother (name withheld considering the nature of the case) woke up early Saturday morning only to find out that the baby who lay between her and the father was no longer moving.

Suspecting that something had gone wrong, she immediately picked the infant up and sought assistance from the barangay hall.

Barangay employees rushed the baby to the Cebu City Medical Center, but the infant was already dead and stiffening when brought to the hospital according to the investigation.

Police Officer 1 Joel Zamora of Cebu City Police Office-Homicide Section said they only learned about the incident at 2 pm.

They proceeded to the couple’s residence in sitio Mahayahay and conducted an investigation.

According to Zamora, the baby’s mother alleged that her live-in partner accidentally pinned their baby underneath him while they were sleeping.

The baby’s grandmother also said the same thing, the police officer said.

Zamora said they will further investigate to determine who really killed the baby accidentally. He said they will also get the side of the baby’s father, who was not around when they went to the area last Saturday.

The police will then assess and determine the possible liability of the parents.  (FREEMAN)
