CPPO awarded for accomplishments

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Police Office bagged two major unit category awards during the 113th Police Service Anniversary yesterday held at the Police Regional Office-7 headquarters.

CPPO dominated the awarding ceremony by being recognized as the police unit with the most number of firearms accounted and the unit with notable accomplishments in the campaign against illegal drugs.

CPPO personnel Senior Police Officer 1 Reynaldo Solante, team leader of the Provincial Intelligence Branch, was named as the Best Police Non-Commissioned Officer in the field of police operation while Chief Inspector Michael Anthony Bastes, Toledo City Police chief, was named Best Police Commissioned Officer in the field of police investigation.

Argao Police Station, one of the police stations under CPPO, under its chief, Inspector Alejandro Batobalonos, also received an Achievement Award in the solution of sensational criminal case.

Senior Superintendent Noel Gillamac, director of CPPO, said the awards will justify how policemen in Cebu worked in the service of the people.

“This is not about the illegal drugs, firearms, and criminality but of service sa katawhan nga nagkinahanglan og tabang si bisan kinsa man na’ siya,” Gillamac told The FREEMAN.

Gillamac further said that the achievement will also serve as means to put people’s trust back to the police.

“We are not up to the award but of heartily service without expecting anything kay nindot ang feeling nga ini’g uli nato sa balay makaingon ta nga we’ve done our part today. There is self-fulfillment,” the CPPO director said.

Just recently, CPPO was also awarded with Silver Eagle Award among other law-enforcement units in Central Visayas.

Camp Crame gave the award to CPPO for passing the initiation stage of the Performance Governance System early this week, which is in line with the Philippine National Police Patrol Plan 2030 enhanced by the PNP’ Strategic Focus, CODE-P: 2013 and Beyond.

Other police offices that passed the initiation were Siquijor, Bohol, Negros Oriental, Mandaue City, and Biliran and the city offices of Dumaguete and Guihulngan, both from Negros Oriental, as well as the Regional Public Safety Battalion-7.

PGS started last May 23 and ended last month. The awarding is scheduled next week at the PNP national headquarters in Quezon City.

The program aims to reform the PNP to address organizational dysfunctions identified by studies. (FREEMAN)
