CEBU, Philippines - Two people including a nine-year-old girl died in separate vehicular accidents in Carcar City and in the town of Oslob last Tuesday.

In Barangay Proper Bolinawan, Carcar City, victim Kayla Faith Alegado, a grade II student and a resident of the place, died immediately after she was hit by a Ceres bus bearing plate numbers GWY 550 at past 1 pm.

The bus, which is owned by Vallacar Transit, Inc., was driven by Pedro Lirasan, 55, of Talisay, Santander town.

According to Senior Police Officer 1 Eduardo Bagol of Carcar City Police, Lirasan was traveling from Cebu City bound for Bato, Santander when the bus accidentally hit Alegado, who was crossing the road.

“Gikan man kuno ni og paniudto ang bata sa ila unya pagkahuman kay naa ra man sa atbang ilang eskwelahan, mao tong milabang ni siya,” said Bagol.

“Basi sab sa mga nakakita, kalit ra sab gyud kuno ni nga milabang ang bata,” he added.

The victim was rushed to Carcar District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

After hitting the girl, the bus swerved to the right lane and hit a Honda Chappy cab and a motorcycle parked at the roadside. No one was injured.

The driver surrendered to Carcar City Police Station but was later released after the bus company promised to shoulder the expenses.

In another incident, 61-year-old Feliciana Catubig died after she was ran over by an L300 van along the national highway in Barangay Looc, Oslob at 10 am.

As per initial police investigation, Catubig, a resident of Barangay Bonbon, was crossing the road when she was hit and ran over by the van plated UV-TRX 148 and driven by Victor Ventura, 29, of Negros Oriental.

The vehicle, owned by Manila-based company Pacman Marketing Corporation, was also bound for Santander town when it figured in the accident.

According to Police Officer 3 Alexander Mendaros, investigator of Oslob Police Station, Catubig, whose husband is a street vendor, was believed to have been suffering from a mental disorder.

“Ingun sa mga residente sa maong lugar, naanad na kuno ni sila nga permi ni magsuroy-suroy ang biktima sa kalsada maong pasagdaan na lang sab nila,” said Mendaros.

Mendaros said that according to Victor, he tried to hit the break but it was already too late.

“Gatuo ang maong driver nga dili na modayun sa paglabang ang biktima kay murag gaduha-duha pa man kuno ni unya kay nikalit man lang kuno ni og labang, naalanganin na ang pag-break niya,” the police officer added.

Ventura surrendered to Oslob Police Station and was released yesterday afternoon after the settlement done by both parties. (FREEMAN)
