Man killed by stray bullet
CEBU, Philippines - A visually impaired man died after he was hit by a stray bullet while sitting outside his house in Sitio Arko, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City yesterday morning.
Diosdado Gargar Cimafranca Jr., 59, died on the spot when a bullet allegedly intended for call center agent Michael Lagahit, 27, hit the victim’s head instead.
Cimafranca was sitting at an alley outside his residence after washing his face when Lagahit happened to pass by. The suspect, Antonio Quitor, 29, was pursuing Lagahit.
Armed with caliber .38 revolver, Quitor allegedly shot but missed Lagahit, hitting Cimafranca instead. The suspect as well as Lagahit tried to escape but they were both mobbed and mauled by the neighbors of Cimafranca.
Lagahit sustained injuries and was brought to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center while Quitor was arrested.
Responding police personnel from the Motorcycle Riding Unit and Special Weapons and Tactics were able to recover the firearm used by the suspect, which was left near the crime scene when he tried to escape.
Criminal complaints for murder and attempted murder will be filed today against Quitor before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office. (FREEMAN)
