For fire victims: DWUP to review lot allocations
CEBU, Philippines - Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, has directed the Division for the Welfare of Urban Poor to review the list of lot allocation for families displaced after the March 18 fire in Barangay Lorega-San Miguel.
Labella issued the directive in his capacity as acting mayor.
He issued the same after 40 residents sought his help because they reportedly have not received a “lot allotment” after the fire.
“Atong gi-classify ang owner, renter ug sharer para i-evaluate pag-usab,” Labella said.
DWUP Chief Atty. Collin Rosell said they will review the list but emphasized only legitimate lot owners can avail of a lot allotment from the city government.
He said there were five individuals who claimed they are lot owners while 28 claimed to be sharers and renters.
“Dugay na namo silang (sharers and renters) gi-advise-an nga dili sila ma-accommodate sa area kay gi-prioritize gyod namo ang mga lot owners kay basin og ang owners maoy ma-displace,” he said.
He admitted, nevertheless, that DWUP had difficulty identifying the real owners of the lots since many renters and sharers also want to qualify.
Rosell said that after the community mapping and screening of close to a thousand individuals, DWUP has identified more than 480 beneficiaries that can be given lot allocation.
He said majority of the legitimate owners have already settled in their newly constructed houses.
“Ang sharer and renters, gusto gyod sila mangayo og luna pero dili lang sila qualified… pero naa man ta’y mahatag pod nila. After sa construction sa medium rise building diha, pwede silang ma-spare. Magpa-abot lang sila gud,” he said. (FREEMAN)
