CEBU, Philippines - A public utility jeepney  driver died while his son was injured after they were shot by two unidentified assailants Saturday, past 11 p.m. in Panganiban Street, Barangay Pahina Central, Cebu City.

Edwin Godinez, 47, succumbed to gunshot wounds on different parts of his body while his son, Jeff Rodel was wounded.

Jeff Rodel later told police that the unidentified assailants shot at them without any apparent reason.

The father and son were reportedly traversing along Panganiban Street when two unidentified men flagged them down. Thinking that they were passengers, Edwin stopped the jeepney to pick them up.

One of the suspects asked him “Apas mo agi bay?” while he pulled out a handgun from his waistline.

Before Edwin could answer, the suspect shot him several times including his son who was seated at the front seat.

Edwin sustained gunshot wounds on his head, on the left side of his body, and on his left leg while Jeff Rodel suffered gunshot wounds on his right arm.

Edwin was left unconscious and the jeepney hit the sidewalk and crashed while the suspects fled away to an unknown location.

Concerned citizens immediately called for police and medical assistance.

The victims were brought by the Alert Ambulance City Disaster to the Cebu City Medical Center but Edwin was declared dead on arrival by the attending physicians.

Crime Scene Investigators recovered a deformed slug of an undetermined caliber of firearm.

The police are eyeing personal grudge as the motive behind the killing but it is still subject for verification.  (FREEMAN)
