Salesman found dead in Dalaguete

CEBU, Philippines - A 25-year-old salesman was found dead at a grassy and uninhabited area in Barangay Jolomaynon, Dalaguete last Friday morning.

A certain Florentino Flores, who was passing by the area on the way to Barangay Poblacion was the one who found the body of Asmark Jey Romarate lying in a pool of his own blood.

Investigation revealed that Romarate succumbed to two gunshot wounds in the chest and left side of his body. He was a resident of the town and was selling kitchen wares and ready-to-wear products with his cousin, Jay Ruel dela Cerna.

When Flores saw Romarate’s dead body, he reportedly immediately went to the house of Barangay Captain Nilo Calvo who went with him to the police station.

Police Officer 3 Allan Sanoy, Alert Team Leader, said Romarate’s death remains baffling even to his family because he reportedly did not have enemies.

“Base sa iyang pamilya, wala man kuno ni kontra tawhana. Wala sab siya’y dala nga pitaka o cellphone atong higayuna,” Sanoy said.

“Sa amo hinuong tan’aw, nakadagan pa ni ang biktima og mga 50 meters kay layo ra man iyang mga baligya sa gikahimutangan sa iyang patay’ng lawas,” Sanoy added.

He said further that no witness has surfaced, so far, and it is likely no one saw the crime considering that the crime scene is far from houses.

Police recovered two empty shells of a caliber .45 pistol from the crime scene.

Sanoy said that they will submit the empty shells for cross matching examination to verify if the suspect is the same person responsible for another shooting incident in the same place.

Romarate’s remains lie at the Saint  William’s Funeral Home.  (FREEMAN)
