Tour guide found dead

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  A 26-year-old canyoneering guide was found dead yesterday, more than 24 hours after he went missing Saturday morning.

Reports reaching The FREEMAN said Aldrin Carba was guiding a group of tourists along Kanlaob River in Alegria, Cebu when "something happened." As of this writing, no additional information as to what really occurred was available.

The canyoneering activity, which is one of the attractions in the area, ends at the Kawasan Falls in Badian town.

La Verne Salas, Carba's friend, said the victim was a lifeguard and swimming instructor.

Carba worked at the Seaman's Hospital in Mandaue City as a lifeguard of its swimming pool. A constant traveler, Carba was also known for his many outdoor adventures.

Upon learning of his death, his friends and travel buddies populated his Facebook wall (he was Ya Man on Facebook) of great adventures they had during his time.

"Grabe kabuotan, gentleman. He doesn't mind nga maglisod siya basta matabangan lang niya ang adventurous sad," recalled Salas of her friend. — /RHM   (FREEMAN)
