Teen sisters caught in Nubain buy-bust

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Two sisters, aged 13 and 15-years-old, were arrested by the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Intelligence Branch in a buy-bust operation for selling ampules of Nubain in Barangay Kamagayan, Cebu City Monday evening.

CAIDSOTG conducted the operation following reports from San Nicolas Police Station that minors were into selling Nubain.

The team arrested the two minors, both night high school students, who reportedly had with them 63 ampules of Nubain which were taken to the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory-7 for chemical analysis.

Superintendent Romeo Santander, CAIDSOTG chief, told The FREEMAN that the operation was a continuous effort after a number of operations conducted by the San Nicolas police confiscated at least 50 ampules of Nubain.

Santander said the two sisters have been engaged in selling Nubain for more than three years now since their father left them.

“They do this to sustain their needs unya estudyante pud ni sila pulos,” he said, adding that the mother of the minors is aware of the illegal activities of the children.

CAIDSOTG is now checking on proper action against the parents.

Most of sisters’ customers are construction workers and students. They could also sell at least 50 ampoules a day priced at P5 to P10 for each ampoule.

Santander disclosed that there is a big possibility that the sisters’ supplier also supplied Nubain to those who were also arrested by the San Nicolas police.

Senior Superintendent Conrad Capa, Deputy Regional Director for Operations, believes that there are still other minors involved in the illegal activity.

“Possibleng meron pang iba and we are also checking where the ampoles are acquired,” Capa said in an interview.

The sisters are now in the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Meanwhile, five hours earlier, several packets of shabu worth P40,000 and a firearm were seized by the police from a 39-year-old man in Sitio Ubca II, Barangay Quiot.

Christopher Anticristo was arrested with a .38 revolver with three bullets, 12 medium and 168 small packets of shabu, and P3,280 cash, believed to be proceeds from his illegal activity.

Superintendent Rex Derilo, RPIU-7 chief, said they conducted an operation after they received a report of an armed person in the area and found Anticristo with a revolver tucked in his waist.

When they frisked the suspect, police also found packets of shabu.

While Anticristo admitted to owning the shabu, he denied owning the firearm.

He was also arrested in 2011 for the same offense but was released from jail after the court dismissed the case.— (FREEMAN)
