Strict ‘no left turn’ for Banilad area

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Traffic Operations Management has warned motorists that it will be strictly implementing the ‘no left turn’ policy at the north corridor to ease the flow of vehicle traffic in the Banilad area.

CITOM Operations chief Joy Tumulak said efforts are focused on the stretch from the flyover near the TESDA compound up to Barangay Talamban.

“Mas matagamtam sa mga motorista ang policy karun since gahapon hinay-hinay pa man ang atong implementation,” Tumulak said.

He said it is important to give attention to smaller corners because interruptions there can contribute to a gridlock in a long stretch of road like the Archbishop Reyes Avenue. He said CITOM has focused largely on bigger intersections.

With the strengthened implementation, vehicles from the Gaisano Country Mall can no longer turn left to Paradise Village. Vehicles taking this direction would have to make a u-turn at the flyover near the TESDA compound.

Those who are headed to the University of San Carlos – Talamban campus from the Ayala area would no longer be able to turn left directly at the campus gate but would have to drive further down and make a turn at the Kabangkalan area.

“Adto sila mosud sa Kabangkalan unya duna may dakong wanang didto, adto sila mu U-turn, muguwa balik diri sa Gov. Cuenco paingon sa ilang skwelahan,” he said.

Mayor Michael Rama himself said implementing the policy strictly is important and he wants it strictly enforced even in bigger intersections.

“The farther the better kay bahala og layo ang tuyok basta di lang sila maka-cause og traffic kung mag-left turn sila,” he said. —/JMO (FREEMAN)
