Truck rams row of houses in Toledo City

Edwin Ian Melecio - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A dump truck loaded with animal feeds crushed four houses and injured a homeowner in Sitio Bawud,  Barangay Magdugo, Toledo City yesterday dawn.

Police identified the injured person as Joel Iwayan who was sleeping when the truck owned by Gama Farm from Consolacion town smashed their house.

The truck driver surrendered to the police after the accident and was identified as Peter Lauriano, a native from Bukidnon and working as a driver of the said farm.

Police said the houses that were hit by the truck were owned by Iwayan and Misa families.

Luckily, only Joel was injured among the homeowners.

Toledo City traffic section assistant head Senior Police Officer 3 Lorenzo Mahilum said Lauriano had just delivered sacks of farm animal feeds in Toledo City and was on his way back to Consolacion when upon reaching Sitio Bawud, the driver lost control of the steering wheel.

Mahilum said the area has a sharp curving road.

Police also believe that the driver may have dozed off while driving leading him to miscalculate the road and overshoot and ram the row of houses.

Iwayan was brought to Toledo City District Hospital due to bruises as a result of the accident.

However, the homeowners and the driver who is now detained in Toledo City detention cell, are reportedly planning to settle the incident amicably.

Police have yet to determine the amount of damage the accident left.  (FREEMAN)
