2 drown in Father’s Day parties

CEBU, Philippines - A Father’s Day celebration at the beach turned into a tragic event for two families after separate drowning incidents took the lives of a father and a daughter.

10-year-old Janalisa Senajon of Barangay Sta. Cruz, Liloan town was rushed to the Municipal Health Center but was pronounced dead on arrival.

SPO1 Bryan Batequin of Liloan Police Station said that Senajon and her family, together with some neighbors, went to Tunay Beach Resort in Barangay Looc around 9 a.m. to celebrate Father’s Day.

Batequin said that his parents were busy talking to their friends and did not notice her.

Senajon went to the sea together with another kid for a swim but minutes later they heard someone calling for help.

Senajon’s parents and the other neighbors went to check what happened and they saw her floating in the sea.

Her parents rushed her to the health center but was already too late.

Meanwhile a 40-year-old father died after he drowned in a beach in Barangay Pooc, Talisay City past 1 p.m. yesterday.

Michael Redoble Sigue of Barangay Lawaan II was declared dead at the Talisay City District Hospital.

SPO1 Mikie Espina said that Sigue was with his family at the beach to celebrate as well his nephew’s birthday.

Espina said that while swimming, Sigue told his wife that he had a difficulty in breathing.

 Despite that, Sigue continued to swim but minutes later he was found floating by his relatives.  (FREEMAN)
