Despite rain, no LPA

CEBU, Philippines - Despite a week of experiencing rain every night, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said no low pressure area has been detected in the pacific region.

PAG-ASA Weather Specialist I Joey Figuracion said that Metro Cebu would experience localized rain showers and thunderstorms during the night because water evaporates faster during warm weather, which is experienced during the day.

He said the hot weather in the morning would cause heavy cloud formation in the evening.

Yesterday, PAG-ASA noted the highest temperature at 2 p.m. with 34 degrees Celsius.

Figuracion revealed that local and international data show a 70 percent chance of experiencing El Niño.

He said that the onset of dry spell would be experienced at the last quarter of the year but its effects would be felt early next year.

He, however, stressed that this dry spell is seen to be weak based on data analysis. It was earlier reported that when El Niño is classified as ‘weak’, it means that it is the lowest intensity experienced for a period of three to four months.

As all classes including those in colleges and universities will commence today, Figuracion said it is important to be ready always. (FREEMAN)
