Man slain then robbed by own drinking buddy

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A man who just had a drink with his friends was reportedly killed then robbed by one of his companions Saturday afternoon in Barangay North Poblacion, Naga City.

Dionisio “Junjun” Yabut was found lying lifeless by his brother almost 4 p.m. that same day with several stab wounds in different parts of the body.

The victim was no longer taken to the hospital.

In the investigation conducted by PO2 Gilmer Noval, it was determined that Yabut and a certain “Noel,” 19, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Minglanilla, just came from a drinking session at the baywalk area in Barangay South Poblacion.

Yabut was then accompanied by Noel in going home. It was around that time when Noel and an unidentified man were seen leaving the area on two motorcycles, one of the motorcycles was reportedly owned by Yabut.

The two also reportedly took the flat screen television of the victim.

It was later that day when the brother of the victim arrived to find Yabut was bathed in his own blood inside his room. The mentioned stolen items were found missing during an inventory.

Superintendent Brindo Nacario, Naga City police chief, immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation but to no avail.

The alleged assailants were last seen heading south.

Police surmise that main motive of the crime is robbery and that they are now tracing the motorcycle of the victim through the Land and Transportation Office.

They are also coordinating with the nearby police station for possible identification of the assailants, especially the Minglanilla Police Station to check if Noel has pending charges in the town.   (FREEMAN)
