Criminal raps filed vs cop in Moalboal

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A police officer is facing charges before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office for allegedly injuring his neighbor in Moalboal town.

The complainant, Ailyn Sevilla, filed criminal complaints of physical injuries, slander by deed, and trespass to dwelling against PO2 Manuelito Abrenica.

In her complaint-affidavit, Sevilla said she and her live-in partner, Jeru Manger Estrera, were inside their house on May 19 when she heard someone calling Estrera’s name at around 8 a.m.

When she looked through the window to verify, she reportedly saw Abrenica.

She then went out of the house and asked Abrenica what he needed. She also told him that Estrera had already left for work.

Suddenly, Abrenica allegedly pointed a finger at her, allegedly called her a fool and even accused her of destroying his family by texting his wife.

“You are a fool, don’t destroy my family! Don’t send wrong text messages to my wife! I am not afraid to physically injure or maltreat women because I would or could do it,” Estrera’s affidavit reads.

She alleged further that Abrenica entered their front yard.

“Suddenly without my consent pushed the gate and entered into our front yard and slapped me several times in the face causing me to turn around due to the force and then he pulled my hair.”

Sevilla said she wanted to free herself and able to hold the T-shirt of the respondent but Abrenica allegedly pushed her and she nearly fell to the ground. Not contended, the policeman allegedly punched her.

When she was about to pick a stone up to throw at the policeman, Abrenica allegedly gestured pulling his firearm from his waist and walked away.

Abrenica will be made to answer the accusations formally through a counter affidavit.  (FREEMAN)
