Man kills brother, live-in partner over alleged affair

Jose P. Sollano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A habal-habal driver shot his brother and live-in partner to death on suspicion the two had an illicit affair.

The incident happened in Barangay Pagsabungan, Mandaue City yesterday morning.

The suspect, Flint Toling, 28, was arrested by responding policemen.

The victims were identified as Jason Toling, 35, Flint’s elder brother, and Ashela Antipuesto, 31, a call center agent. Responding policemen led by Police Officer 1 Rawlin Abing found the victims around 9 a.m.

Antipuesto succumbed to gunshot wounds in the chest and multiple stab wounds in different parts of her body. Jason, meanwhile, was hit in his chest.

He was rushed to the Mandaue City Hospital but he did not make it there alive.

Police recovered a .38 caliber revolver and three empty shells, a slug of a .38 caliber revolver, and a kitchen knife from the crime scene.

Initial investigation revealed that Flint and Antipuesto had an argument at their rented apartment after Flint accused the latter of being in a relationship with his brother. Flint allegedly killed Antipuesto by stabbing and subsequently shooting her twice.

Afterwards, he confronted his brother inside the latter’s house and shot him.

Concerned residents called the police for assistance and responding policemen cornered the suspect at his brother’s house.

Police said Flint would be made to undergo a test to determine if he was under the influence of liquor at the time of the killing. Flint is detained at Police Station 3 in Barangay Basak, Mandaue City while awaiting the filing of charges against him. — (FREEMAN)
