CEBU, Philippines -  To ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity at the Bureau of Fire Protection building where the Cebu City Medical Center has temporarily relocated, Mayor Michael Rama yesterday assured payment of the P1.8 million unpaid electric bills.

“Cebu City will never run away…the city will pay. We can even pay all,” Rama said.

Rama called VECO yesterday to assure payments of the seven months unpaid bills of BFP.

“I called up Veco today (yesterday), it was very clear that VECO would never bring more problems as I have known them to be. Not seeing complications because we are gearing towards simplification. And, aspiring for beautiful things…,” Rama said.

The BFP building, where CCMC has transferred following the magnitude 7.2 earthquake in October, has been issued disconnection notice by VECO because of unpaid bills amounting to P1,849,169.70.

BFP asked the city government to pay two-thirds of the accumulated amount or P1,232,780 because of the fact that majority of the facilities were being utilized by the hospital.

Senior Inspector Noel Nelson Ababon, BFP budget management section chief, said that the BFP is paying an average of P212,726 power consumption before the CCMC relocated in their building.

Dr. Lucelle Mercado, city administrator, said the payment has already been processed.

“We’ll be paying kay naggamit man pud ta (BFP building). Gi-process na ang actual payment,” Mercado said.  (FREEMAN)
