Noticeable aftershocks felt in Cebu
CEBU, Philippines - The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded four noticeable aftershocks in Bohol yesterday bringing to at least 6,000 the number of aftershocks since the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Central Visayas last year.
The aftershocks were also felt in Cebu.
Seismic Observer Robinson Jorgio said the aftershocks were still spillovers from the massive earthquake in October and there is no telling just yet when they will stop.
“Dili mi makasulti ana kon kanus-a mahunong ning aftershocks,†Jorgio said.
Phivolcs said earlier the aftershocks may stop after three to four months.
The first aftershock was felt at 09.88°N, 124.27°E - 002 km S 16° W of Dagohoy, Bohol 12:54 a.m. with a 3.4 magnitude.
The second was felt at 4.24 a.m. 09.70°N, 124.27°E - 046 km N 82° E of Tagbilaran City, Bohol with a 2.7 magnitude.
The third was felt at 11:13 a.m. at 09.91°N, 124.08°E - 039 km N 40° E of Tagbilaran City, Bohol with a 4.0 magnitude.
The fourth was felt at 1:26 p.m. at 09.89°N, 124.21°E - 048 km N 56° E of Tagbilaran City, Bohol with a 3.3 magnitude.
Jorgio said it is normal for people to get concerned, what with the experience during the October quake but he said the lessons from that experience can be applied should there be more aftershocks.
“Ang kahadlokan man gud sa tao kay ang effect gyod sa earthquake,†he said.
The October quake killed at least 200 people, destroyed hundreds of structures, and damaged many others. Damage at that time was pegged at P1 billion. — /JMO (FREEMAN)
