CEBU, Philippines - The “Gabii sa Kabilin” has evolved into a bigger attraction with 35 destinations to be featured in the latest heritage tour around Metro Cebu.

This year’s number of destinations will surpass last year’s 23 sites in the cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue and Talisay.

Now on its 8th year, “Gabii sa Kabilin” carries a theme called the “Rise of the Queen.”

Jocelyn Gera of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. said this will be the first time that the event will carry a theme.

“When Kabilin started in 2007 it was really an experiment,” Gera said.

To be held on May 30, “Gabii sa Kabilin” will have cultural shows, exhibits and other activities from 6 p.m. to midnight as part of celebration of the National Heritage Month and the International Museum Day, which falls on May 18.

One of the new destinations is the Saint Theresa’s College museum.

“This is our first time to join the Gabii sa Kabilin and we are trying to open the museum now. We have very old items of Mama Mary and Sto. Niño,” said Caridad Balicasan of the STC museum.

The Anthill Fabric Gallery is also one of event’s destinations.

Joy Anya Lin, Anthill Fabric Gallery director, said they are joining the event to remind the people about the rich culture of Cebu.

As for the event’s security, Senior Superintendent Armando Radoc, director of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, said venues of the event in Lapu-Lapu City will be properly secured.

“Gabii sa Kabilin” is being initiated by the heritage unit of RAFI. —/LPM (FREEMAN)
