POEA-7 takes part in MERS-CoV fight

Jean Marvette A. Demecillo, GMR - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration urged overseas Filipino workers in the Middle East and licensed recruitment agencies to conduct special briefings on precautionary measures against Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus.

POEA-7 Regional Director Evelia Durato said MERS-Cov is an isolated case and that there were no changes in the number of applicants interested to be employed in the Middle East.

“Kita ra ang nakuyawan, pero ang mga worker, wala man naghunahuna,” she said.

“Kanang moingon nga epidemic na, anha makuyawan nata ana, wala man,” Durato added.

However, she said her office should continue implementing the preventive measures against the virus for the safety and protection of deployed workers.

Durato said licensed recruitment agencies should report to the Department of Health and POEA any case regarding the virus.

POEA-7 has issued the same protective measures released by the DOH.

One of its directives is for a health worker to strictly follow infection control protocols in his work, practice proper cough etiquette, among others, regarding the virus.

OFWs from MERS-CoV-affected countries who are returning to the Philippines were advised by the POEA to monitor their health for at least 14 days and if any symptoms develop, proper etiquette should be observed to prevent the spread of infection.  (BANAT NEWS)
