2 US groups to give jobs to residents
CEBU, Philippines - To fast track the recovery of areas in Northern Cebu that were affected by super typhoon, two American organizations have promised Governor Hilario Davide III to help by providing more jobs to residents and through other means of assistance.
“We visited the governor so we could help provide long-term job creations. So, what can we do to create more jobs? We are creating the seven major industries. We also talked to the governor about the needs in modernizing the medical sector,†said Ebb Hinchliffe, executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Inc.
Hinchcliffe and John Forbes of the Management Association of the Philippines went to see Davide in his office at the Capitol to present to the latter their plans for Cebu.
Hinchcliffe said they could help the province solve its deed for raw materials for the construction of houses in the north affected by Yolanda. Also, they can assist in providing for modern equipment for hospitals, he added.
“These are immediate needs. But we also want to talk about long term. More jobs for the Cebuanos,†he said.
Forbes said their group has been doing the same work in the country, “but we haven’t really come down here for the needs of the people.â€
He said that he came back particularly to talk about short-term and long-term plans for Cebu.
Forbes said they are eyeing on duplicating the works they have been doing in other areas by improving the province’s agri-business, infrastructure, mining, ma-nufacturer, trade and others.
“Cebu is right after manila. Strong in manufacturing,†he said.
Forbes expressed how impressed he is with the success of public-private partnership projects and also believes in the potential growth of tourism businesses once the new airport terminal is finished. (FREEMAN)
