Veggie dealer, ‘peeping tom’ killed during the Holy Week
CEBU, Philippines - Two men, including a suspected peeping tom and robber, were shot dead in two separate incidents in Cebu during the Holy Week.
The first victim was identified as Paterno Navarro, 45, was found dead by his neighbors several meters away from his house.
Responding policemen brought him to Badian District Hospital and then to the Badian Rural Health Unit Clinic, where he was official declared dead due to a gunshot wound to the stomach by dr. Urduja Espiritu.
Initial investigation revealed that prior to his death Navarro, a vegetable trader, went to Barangay Nug-as, Alcoy town for a local trade fair commonly known as “tabo.â€
He bought vegetables there and sold them at the Carbon Public Market in Cebu City. According to the police, the night before he was found dead, Navarro was seen riding a habal-habal (motorcycle-for-hire) away from his residence.
Navarro allegedly had with him that time his P40,000 to P50,000 profit fromt the sale of his vegetables.
As of press time, the police have yet to identify the killer and the motive behind the attack.
Meanwhile in Cordova town, Mactan island, Jose Jumao-as, 46, a suspected peeping tom and robber, was found dead by his neighbors past 4.am. last Maundy Thursday.
The police said that victim visited his friend Isaias Tirol in Sitio Lantugi, Barangay Bang-bang the night before the incident.
Nobody allegedly knew where Jumao-as went after he left Tirol’s house, until his body was found by residents.
Jumao-as, whose body bore multiple stab wounds, was officially declared dead by Dr. Christopher Calimbas of the Cordova Rural Health Unit.
Responding police officers recovered two empty shells of a .45 pistol and one ice pick at the scene.
Cordova police believed that the motive of the crime might be connected to Jumao-as’ alleged habit of peeping on people, aside from allegedly being a robber. (FREEMAN)
