CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Development Council has endorsed the amount of P1.2 billion to the Department of Health -7 for the construction and expansion of the Cebu City Medical Center and the City Health Department.

In a recently passed resolution, CDC endorsed the P1 billion amount  for the rebuilding of the CCMC and P2 million for infrastructure projects for the City Health Department to be included in the 2015 budget of DOH-7 under its Health facility Enhancement Program.

The CCMC was severely damaged during the magnitude 7.2 earthquake in October and was declared by structural engineers unfit for occupancy.

“The City officials see the urgent need to reconstruct the CCMC, where a dialysis center and other medical facilities will be built to continually serve the needs of indigents patients of Cebu City,” a portion of CDC resolution reads.

Engineer Kenneth Carmelita Enriquez, officer in charge of the City Planning and Development Office has submitted the resolution of CDC to the Cebu City Council for approval.

But, the Council earlier referred at least six resolutions of CDC to the committees on budget and infrastructure for perusal.

Apart from the P1.2 billion, CDC also endorsed the Proposed Irrigation Project totaling to P54 million for inclusion in the 2015 National Irrigation Authority-7 for the North and South districts.

The amount is broken down into P1.5 million for Barangay Mabini; P2.5 million for Upper Agsungot; P2.5 million for Gubang bukid; P3 milion for Barangay Binaliw; P5 million each for Barangays Busay, Agbuwakan, Lintuwang, Pulangbato and San Jose, all in the north district.

The Proposed Irrigation Project for the south district has a total amount of P19.5 million, including the P2.5 million for Upper Sudlon II; P7 million for Buot-Taup and P5 million each for Barangays Pamutan and Toong.

Likewise, an endorsement of P70 million has been forwarded for Local Poverty Reduction Action Plan projects and P1.6 billion for Cebu City Drainage Plan to be included in the 2015 DPWH-7 budget for implementation next year.

Plus, a P2.7 billion budget is proposed to be included in the 2015 DPWH budget, which includes P313.1 million for the Mega Cebu Proposal; P375 million DPWH-DOT Convergence Program; P437.2 million for infrastructure projects for the first congressional district and P1.1 billion for the second congressional district.

However, CDC resolutions are yet to be approved by the Cebu City Council and RDC. These were submitted to RDC-7 for endorsement to the National Government.

During the passage of the said measures, CDC was presided by Mayor Michael Rama. Also present were DILG Regional Director Atty. Danilo Almendras, Association of Barangay Council president Phillip Zafra, City Planning and Development assistant coordinator Ma. Concepcion Encabo, among others.  (FREEMAN)
