CEBU, Philippines - The revenues collected in all 11 markets under the jurisdiction of the Cebu City government last year significantly increased to more than a million pesos compared to 2012.

According to Raquel Arce, city market Administrator, revenues in 2013 totaled to P51.1 million, higher than 2012’s P50 million collection.

Among 11 markets and satellite markets in the city, Pasil Market has the highest generated revenues totaling to P7.9 million.

The rest of the report showed that Carbon market unit 1 had revenues of P4.2 million,  Carbon market unit II with P2.6 million, Carbon market unit III with P3.6 million, Freedom Park with P4.1 million and Warwick-Barracks P1.4 million.

Taboan public market also had a revenue collection of with P4.4 million, T. Padilla market with P1.5 million, Ramos public market with P2.5 million and Pardo Public market with P2.1 million.

Other identified generated revenues came from the cash ticket, mango trade, “burloloy”, miscellaneous fees, market violation fees, among others totaling to P16.6 million.

However, in a comparative report presented by the market authority, the revenues of  2012 and 2013 were quite lower than in 2011 which was P55,275,973.22.

Arce explained that some other sources were left behind, including the collection for the pay parking. This year, only P554,000 was collected compared to the P788,915 in 2012 and P726,775 in 2011.

“Wala kaayo ma-collect ang parking fees. Lack of personnel to collect sa atong payparking sa merkado,” Arce said, stressing that the City Treasurer’s Office  must deploy personnel in the market to constantly collect fees.

For this year, the city market has collected a total of P8.5 million from the months of  January (P4.4 million) to February (P4.1 million).

“We should focus on the collection dili lang cleanliness and orderliness kay ang market economic enterprise man sa city,” she added. — (FREEMAN)
