CEBU, Philippines - More than P31 million has been earmarked for the rehabilitation of some infrastructures and a market in the municipality of Madridejos in Bantayan Island which were battered by super typhoon Yolanda.

The Municipal Council of Madridejos has authorized Mayor Salvador Dela Fuente to enter into and sign a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Interior and Local Government for the implementation of the project.

DILG would shell out P31.2 million financial assistance for the rehabilitation of Madridejos Cultural Center, Municipal Hall, and the wet and dry market of the town.

Dela Fuente said that P5.2 million would be downloaded from DILG, of  which half of the amount would be utilized for the municipal hall while the other half is for the repair of the wet and dry market.

The market sustained severe damages after typhoon Yolanda wreaked havoc in Bantayan Island.

The P26 million is intended for the rehabilitation town’s cultural center in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Dela Fuente said the town has yet to download the fund which would be directed to the trust fund of the municipality. The town has no adequate funds for the rehabilitation which prompted them to seek assistance from the government agency.

“Last Monday pa man namo nahatag sa DILG ang mga requirements. Nag-open na pod mi’g special account, mao ni ang Recovery Assistance for Yolanda,” he said adding that the budget was based on the program of works from the municipal engineer.

Yolanda left P44 million damage to the infrastructures and utilities in the municipality. — (FREEMAN)
