Guard faces PNP probe

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Superintendent Marvin Sanchez, the Firearms Explosives Security Service Agency and Guards Supervisory Section chief, is set to investigate the possible lapses of the security guard of La Nueva Pharmacy Inayawan branch, but is still waiting for the incident report from GDS Security Agency regarding Saturday’s robbery.

Sanchez said that he will look into the reports that Argie Batiller, the security guard assigned at La Nueva, only had two live rounds in his revolver when he was on duty.

He also found out that Batiller’s name did not appear at the initial disposition report submitted by the agency to his office. The disposition report contains the list of the security guards, their assignments and the establishments that the agency serves.

He said that he will ask GDS to submit all the necessary documents to help him determine why Batiller’s name was missing from the disposition report.

FESSAGS will also do a background check on Batiller but he clarified that they will only investigate the guard administratively.

He said that it was Batiller’s duty to secure the establishment and to implement the management’s rules but he failed to do so when he let the suspects, who were wearing ball caps and sunglasses, enter the establishment despite the sign posted at the store’s door prohibiting the wearing of those accessories.

Sanchez said most of the guards are well-trained because they still have to undergo a refresher course before their licenses are renewed.

Sanchez said he is still waiting for GDS to submit their report regarding the La Nueva robbery incident.

Past noon Saturday two suspects disarmed Batiller and took a total of P20,000 cash from two cash registers. They were last seen fleeing to Talisay City after the robbery.  (FREEMAN)
