Fish vendor shot dead

CEBU, Philippines - An ambulant fish vendor was shot dead Saturday morning by an unidentified gunman along Abellana Street, Barangay Suba, Cebu City.

Winniefredo Sayson, 51, resident of Sto. Niño Street in the same barangay succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head.

Initial investigation shows that the victim was walking along the alley in the interior portion of the area when he was allegedly shot by still unknown assailant around 4:35 a.m.

The unidentified gunman, armed with a handgun, was allegedly following the victim, according to residents living nearby.

The emergency response team tried to revive the victim but failed. The culprit was able to escape upon the arrival of the responding policemen from Police Station 6 led by SPO2 Francisco Balansag.

One empty shell apparently of a .45 caliber was recovered at the crime scene.

The police are still investigating the motive behind the killing. — (FREEMAN)
