Pregnant woman hangs self

Grace Melanie L. Lacamiento - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A pregnant woman was found dead hanging at the washing area on the second floor of their house in Barangay T. Padilla, Cebu City yesterday morning.

Around 5:00 a.m., Sylvette Perales, 31, was seen lifeless with a yellow nylon rope tied around her neck.

The responding team of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation led by Lyra Castro found the victim unresponsive.

Senior Police Officer  1 Ruth Bongo-Violango said they found no external injury or disarray of things in the area, which are an indication of a foul play.

Clotilde Perales, mother of the victim, said she was sleeping on the second floor of their house when her five-year-old grandson woke her up and informed her about what happened to his mother.

Clotilde then found her daughter hanging, prompting her to ask help from her neighbors who immediately cut the rope tied around her daughter’s neck and called for police assistance.

A day before the incident, the victim reportedly had an argument and fought with  her boyfriend, Rofel Ponce.

Ponce was allegedly seen frequently visiting her house.

The victim’s 11-year-old son also told the police that his mother admitted that she was pregnant.

Aside from the rope, the Crime Scene Investigation Unit also found a cellphone, charger, sim pack, small red tablets, some notes and medical receipts.

The body of  Perales was taken to St. Francis Funeral Homes for autopsy.— /GMR (FREEMAN)
