DPWH’s 169 projects cost several hundred millions

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways has listed 169 ongoing infrastructure projects in Cebu costing hundreds of millions of pesos, as of February 28, 2014.

Based on the Infrastructure Projects for Region VII report posted at the DPWH website, 43 of the said ongoing projects are in Cebu City.

They include a P100-million road right of way acquisition, widening and concreting of Governor Cuenco Avenue (from Mahiga bridge to Cabancalan, Quezon Street); and P145.2-million road right of way payment, widening, and construction of a flyover at the junction of M.J. Cuenco Avenue/General Maxilom Avenue to Juan Luna Avenue.

Aside from widening and concreting of roads, DPWH is also constructing school buildings in Cebu City.

There are also 13 of such projects in Mandaue City, including a P50-million repair and improvement of A.S. Fortuna Street, P65.2-million drainage improvement of Cebu North Hagnaya Wharf Road, and the P45.7-million rehabilitation of drainage facilities along M. Logarta Street.

Lapu-Lapu City, on the other hand, has five ongoing infrastructure projects that include the P300-million widening of the Mactan Circumferential Road, P17.9-million asphalt overlay of the Opon Airport road, P15.2-million pavement concreting of the Mactan Airport road, and P29.5-million construction of two flood control structures along the MCR.

The remaining 108 infrastructure projects, on the other hand, are currently being implemented in different towns of Cebu and in the cities of Naga, Bogo, Talisay and Carcar.

They are mostly road widening, asphalt overlaying, concreting, drainage system constructions, and construction of various elementary school buildings.—/RHM (FREEMAN)
