Man killed, wife hurt in shooting
CEBU, Philippines - A family bonding turned bloody when a couple was shot by their own relatives Sunday afternoon in sitio Tabunok, Barangay Maslog, Danao City, resulting in the death of the 25-year-old habal-habal driver and the injury of his wife.
Ryan Ruta and his wife, Madel, hosted a get-together party with their relatives when the shooting happened.
Danao City police chief, Supt. Elmer Lim, said the victims were drinking when the suspects, Sherwin Capin, 26, and his father Sergio, 53, arrived and started shooting at the victims.
Ryan succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head while Madel is in critical condition because of a gunshot wound in the back.
The couple was rushed to Danao District Hospital but Ryan was declared dead on arrival. His wife was transferred to Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
The suspects were arrested and are now detained at the Danao City Police Station pending the filing of the criminal complaints.
Lim said they are now preparing murder and frustrated murder complaints against the suspects.
Lim said personal grudge was the motive behind the shooting. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
