Jilted minor commits suicide
CEBU, Philippines - A 16-year-old graduating high school student reportedly ended her life Sunday afternoon after she broke up with her boyfriend a week ago in Santander town.
The minor, name withheld by The FREEMAN, of sitio Takuling, Barangay Mainit, Oslob, was last seen Sunday taking a dip in the seawaters off sitio Bung-aw in Barangay Poblacion, Santander. She was found dead with a cut in her throat.
Witnesses told police investigators that they saw the girl repeatedly making the sign of the cross as she waded into the water.
Police Office 3 Catherine Gumagay believes that the girl slashed her throat with a knife while in the water. The girl lives with her relatives in Poblacion, Santander where she attended school.
She reportedly broke up with her boyfriend a week ago for unknown reason. After the breakup she reportedly became uneasy.
“Nagplano na kuno ni nga molakaw aron magpakamatay kay gibuwagan kuno sa uyab,†Gumagay said.
According to the police, the girl texted her former boyfriend to meet her at the beach in the afternoon she committed suicide. But the boy did not come.
“Ambot nganong wala nakaadto basin wala pud pamlite pero buwag na sila,†Gumagay said. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
