Seizure sought for ‘smuggled goods’ found in Liloan yard

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A warrant of  seizure and detention was recommended against the suspected smuggled goods recently found by the Bureau of Customs from a yard in Liloan town.

Customs examiner Gil Buzon, who led the raiding team, made the recommendation to district collector Rolando Almadin.

“Considering no evidence of payment of duties and taxes was presented by the owner, it is recommended that a warrant of seizure and detention be issued against the inventoried articles,” Buzon said in his report.

Almadin said he will issue the WSD on Monday if the owner of T.E.S. Enterprises cannot present proof of payments of duties and taxes.

The owner was given until tomorrow to produce the documents.

Based on the inventory, a total of 183 assorted used items including a payloader, prime mover, long tractors, jet skis, 400 used tires, speed boats, water pumps, welding machines, various chassis and body, generator sets, and engines.

Aside from these, various brands of used cars and motorcycles like Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda and Mitsu-bishi were also seized during the raid.

The raid was conducted by virtue of the letter of authority issued by BOC commissioner John Sevilla.

Based on the “After Operation Report” submitted by the agents of Customs Intelligence and  Investigation Service-Port of Cebu the alleged smuggled items were owned by Evelyn Quijano Alforque, who is also the registered owner of T.E.S. Enterprises. (FREEMAN)
