Palma: Is life as cheap as that?

Jessa Agua - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma expressed disappointment over the spate of recent killings in the Province of Cebu.

Palma told reporters after officiating the Ash Wednesday Mass at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral that Lent should be the time to repent and respect life.

“Masubo. It is very sad that all of these are happening. Mangutana kita, where is this coming from? How come ang kinabuhi sa tawo becomes cheap ug is it as cheap as that,” Palma said.

He said gratitude and respect in the sacredness of life should be on top of everything.

“It is again a moment of reflection ug unta we should recover the gratitude for life and respect for life. All of us can do something about this,” the prelate explained, urging justice for victims of crimes.

“But I also say, we also pray that to the agency concerned, may justice be also be served. And may from all of us charity will also be expressed,” he said.

Prominent lawyer Noel Archival and two others were gunned down in Dalaguete town last February 18 while they were on their way to Cebu City after attending a hearing in Dumaguete City.

Ten days later, a businesswoman was also shot dead in Argao and on March 3, two local government unit officials were ambushed in Toledo City.  (FREEMAN)
