Angelica S. Bertos/GMR - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A sidewalk vendor was shot by a barangay watchman who is also a member of a task force of Manalili Sidewalk Vendors Organization in Ermita, Cebu City last Sunday evening.

Jaime Santillan, 53, a resident of Panganiban Street, Barangay Pahina Central, said that he was tending his sari-sari vending stall when the suspect suddenly appeared and shot him with a handgun without apparent reason.

The suspect was identified as Fernando Cuerbo, 39, a resident of Barangay Ermita. He has a companion, who was unidentified, during the incident.

The police alleged that the suspect and the victim had previous personal grudges.

Cuerbo and his unidentified companion were able to escape while the victim, who was hit in the stomach, was rushed by his live-in partner to Cebu City Medical Center.

Responding personnel from the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office said the victim’s condition is already stable and that they are still pursuing the suspects.  (FREEMAN)
