Customs to bid out 14,560 bags of rice
CEBU, Philippines - The Bureau of Customs (BOC) - Port of Cebu will hold a public auction on March 5, 2014 on the 14,560 bags of rice that arrived from Vietnam last year.
The bags of rice arrived in 28 container vans on March 16 and 22, 2013 and April 16, 2013. The shipments, however, were abandoned after the consignees, Melma Enterprises and JJM Global Trading, failed to file an import entry 30 days after they arrived at the Cebu International Port.
BOC-Cebu District Collector Roberto Almadin declared the rice shipment abandoned after no import entries were filed.
The 14,560 bags of rice were divided into three lots. The first lot is comprised of 4,650 bags at P1,654.50 per bag; the second lot is comprised of 4,680 bags at P1,783 per bag; while the third lot is comprised of 5,200 bags at P1,865.50 per bag.
BOC-Cebu legal division chief Rico Rey Holganza said it is the National Food Authority (NFA) that has set the floor price.
The bags of rice may be viewed tomorrow, March 4, at the CIP holding area.
Almadin stated in the notice of auction sale that a prospective bidder must be a duly accredited grain trader/importer of the NFA and must bring proof of accreditation at the time of registration.
In the event of a failed bidding, the second auction date shall automatically be on March 7, 2014 at the same floor price without need of further publication of posting. (FREEMAN)
